Checklist: What Every Aircraft Owner Should Know Before an Annual Inspection
Annual Inspections Made Easy for General Aviation Aircraft Owners
As an aircraft owner, staying compliant with FAA regulations isn’t just a legal requirement — it’s critical to your safety and operational efficiency. The annual inspection is one of the most important milestones in your aircraft’s maintenance cycle, and at Powell Avionics, we help you prepare for it with confidence.
Located at KFAY – Fayetteville Regional Airport, we work with aircraft owners across North Carolina and the Southeast to streamline inspections and reduce downtime.
Pre-Inspection Checklist for Aircraft Owners
Use this checklist before your aircraft’s annual inspection to avoid delays and unexpected costs:
1. Ensure Logbooks Are Current and Accessible
Make sure all airframe, engine, and propeller logbooks are available, legible, and updated. Missing log entries slow the inspection and may raise red flags with the IA mechanic.
2. Check AD Compliance
Are you up to date on all Airworthiness Directives (ADs)? Your mechanic will verify this, but it’s helpful to know in advance if any are due or pending.
3. Remove Personal Items
Empty baggage compartments, seatback pockets, and glove boxes. The cleaner the aircraft interior, the faster we can access inspection panels and hidden components.
4. Ensure Battery Is Charged
A dead or weak battery delays testing of avionics, lights, and starter systems.
5. Review Prior Squawks
Bring a list of known issues, recurring faults, or nagging concerns. These don’t have to wait for the annual to become major problems.
6. Get Ahead of Wear Items
Check your tires, brake pads, hoses, and filters. If you already suspect they need replacement, it’s better to plan it into the inspection rather than be caught off guard.
